Welcome to Vena, a Distinguished School!

Vena Avenue Elementary & Gifted/High-Ability Magnet has been named a California Distinguished School by the California Department of Education. Only 5% of California schools are awarded each year following a selection process. This award identifies and honors schools that have demonstrated educational excellence for all students and progress in narrowing the achievement gap. Every student at Vena has access to high-quality educational experiences. Our school administration, staff, and families work together to make sure that each child is "prepared for success."  Roar out with pride, Vena Tigers!

Book Fair and Parent Conferences

Parent Conferences  will be from February 27th to March 3rd. We will have our *Book Fair at the Vena Library on the same dates, from 12:30 P.M. to 1:30 P.M.

Our Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that provides the books kids want to read. It's a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level. Reading for pleasure inside and outside of school has real and long-lasting benefits. It unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are. Please make plans to come to our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child's reading habits.
Remember, all purchases benefit our school. See you at the Book Fair!

*Can't wait? You can also shop online. The online book fair is from February 15 to March 7.

Click here to go to Vena's Online Book Fair.

Read Across America at Vena

Vena Avenue Elementary is an avid supporter of the National Education Association’s Read Across America project--a literacy campaign designed to motivate children to read by making it fun.  We will all be celebrating the joy of reading and honoring Dr. Seuss from March 13 to March 17, 2017 with several activities:

  • Picnic with students reading out on the yard on Friday, March 17th @1:45 to 2:20 P.M.
  • “Dress Up Like a Dr. Seuss Character” during the picnic (see costume guidelines below)
  • Classroom Door Decorating to promote reading
  • “Guess the Mystery Book” Contest
  • A presentation of Vena’s Green Eggs and Ham video featuring Vena students
  • “Story Time at the Library” with Ms. Richardson

There was a Read Across America form in the March 2nd Thursday Folder. Please read it and return it to your child's teacher if you would like to help us make this a memorable event.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Read Across America Poem

You're never too old, too wacky, too wild,
To pick up a book and read with a child.
You're never too busy, too cool, or too hot,
To pick up a book and share what you've got.

In schools and communities,
Let's gather around,
Let's pick up a book,
Let's pass it around.

There are kids all around you,

Kids who will need
Someone to hug,
Someone to read.

Come join us March 2nd
Your own special way
And make this America's
Read to Kids Day.

Thank You, Vena Families!

Thank you to all the Vena families that donated to our toy drive for the San Fernando Rescue Mission. We collected over 200 toys to give to boys and girls that are less fortunate. Your generosity will put a smile on a child's face.
