The ABCs of Learning

Welcome back, Vena Families!

Michelle King, the new Superintendent, stresses the importance of the ABCs of learning: Attendance, Belonging, and Course PerformanceHere are some of her main points.

Attendance: Academic success begins with attendance.

Belonging: Students are motivated when they feel like a valued member of their community.

Course Performance: Academic success and the journey to graduation starts in preschool, and it is important that we support our students from day one. We need to talk to them about their progress toward graduation.

Ms. King also reminded us that ensuring that these ABCs are in place is everyone's responsibility.

We at Vena are committed to these ABCs. We know we can count on your help with making sure each Vena Tiger is a successful learner!

Art Night at Vena

Vena Magnet families supported the school's enrichment programs by bidding on artwork created by students. Live entertainment was provided by the Vena Music Club--a group of third to fifth grade students who meet with Ms. Debuque every week; and by Ms. Branda's fourth grade students, who performed a student-written play based on the book Because of Winn-Dixie.The event was organized by Vena Parent for Kids (VPFK) and the art was created in the classrooms with the help of Ms. Tiffany of Gorilla Art. Vena Artists, keep thinking creatively!IMG_4538 sharper.jpg

McTeacher's Night

Vena teachers, students, and families were at the Osborne McDonald's in full force. They helped raise funds for the school by having their share of fries, burgers, drinks, and dessert. Please keep visiting our website to find out more fun ways to help our school!

Vena Is a Distinguished School!

Vena Avenue Elementary & Gifted/High-Ability Magnet has been named a California Distinguished School by the California Department of Education. Only 5% of California schools are awarded this year following a selection process. This award identifies and honors schools that have demonstrated educational excellence for all students and progress in narrowing the achievement gap. Every student at Vena has access to high-quality educational experiences. Our school administration, staff, and families work together to make sure that each child is "prepared for success."  Roar out with pride, Vena Tigers!
