    Robotics at Vena

Parents met with Mrs. Barragan and Dr. Dedman to find out and sign up for the new robotics program. In this program two teams will learn to build, drive, and code VexIQ robots. Each team is made up of four students. These teams will use their new knowledge and skills to compete with other schools. Go Tiger Techies!

A Note from Our New Principal

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! It is my pleasure to introduce myself to you as your new principal. I am very excited to join the Vena family as we work together to continue to provide a rigorous and engaging academic environment for all students.

Last year, Vena Elementary School had great academic success. For example, Innovate Public Schools and Educational Results Partnership (ERP) recognized our students’ academic gains in Language Arts and Math. Furthermore, Vena Elementary School continues to be an Honor Roll School. There is no doubt that such success was the result of the hard work of teachers, parents, and support staff to help Vena students to achieve high expectations. This school year, the focus of our program continues to be in rigorous academics partnered with high expectations for behavior, character, and learning.  Our goal is to make sure your child feels valued while being in an intellectual, productive, and safe environment.

I am honored to join such hard-working staff, dedicated parents, and community partners. Your support in making the 2019-20 school year a success is welcomed and much needed.  I am looking forward to meeting and working closely with all of you.

    Sincerely,

    Mrs. Murphy

    About Us

Vena Avenue Elementary/Magnet is the hidden jewel of northeast San Fernando Valley in the city of Arleta. Nestled in a quiet residential area with the mountains as a backdrop, Vena is an oasis from the bustling city and nearby freeways.  Though from the exterior, we may look like a typical elementary school, on the inside, our school is extraordinary and successful.

Our school's greatest strength is our common vision--teachers, staff members, parents, and administrators are dedicated to teaching our children the academic, social, and personal skills that encourage the love of learning.  Our goal is for our students to become responsible citizens who will enjoy productive lives.  We strive to meet the individual needs of student learning styles while focusing on the "whole child."

Along with grades Kinder through Fifth, we have a transitional kinder and an expanded transitional kinder for preschoolers. In addition, there is a preschool for all learners (PALS), and a Specific Learning Disability Class (SLD) for students with IEPs. A gifted/high-ability magnet for second through fifth graders is also onsite.

Students come through the school gates from many different backgrounds as well as with varying abilities and needs.  But at Vena, all students will work toward their individual potential in a SAFE learning environment.  Students will be RESPECTFUL and RESPONSIBLE citizens.
